It's black. All black. Complete darkness. Then, a spotlight. The beam pierces through the cold nothingness, and the platform is revealed. Our exact location is unknown. It is also irrelevant. The heavy thud of black army-style boots can be heard. The contours of Spider Saya: she steps into the light, her hands folded behind her. She does not look into the camera with annoyance but with defiance.
"I never quite understood how so many people can just throw their lives away for a cause that does not belong to them."
She pauses for a moment, frowning. She rephrases.
"Maybe I should clarify. The need for battle has forever been part of humanity. This lust for the fight has driven man to accomplish marvels beyond what any other species can ever fathom. You see, we are a savage beast and most dangerous of all - but then - it's all part of the natural scheme of things. But we've convinced ourselves that we are beyond such crude and primal elements. Instead, we weave an impenetrable web of illusions to justify the atrocities we devise - the greatest, perhaps, would...be the guise of heroism."
She takes a moment to reflect and weighs each word in her mind. The self-proclaimed best wrestler in the Young Lioness Academy continues.
"The ideal of heroism is a poison used to subjugate us to the horrors of a world that will only abandon us once we accomplish our given task; I still value and respect those who came before us and who fought for my right to express whatever depraved machination I can come up with without being incarcerated. Having said that, I also believe that we tend to go beyond reason and can be shameless. You see, I firmly believe that people like Himiko Ando hide behind these ideals to lie their way into the hearts of millions. Spewing venom into the ears of our children. Fight for honor. Fight for your family. Fight for what's right. Fight for Truth... how honourable; how inspiring..."
She stops momentarily, brings his black-smeared fingernails up into the air and tilts her head as she stares into them. Who knows what this gesture can signify for Spider Saya. She smirked and turned her head to the camera to continue.
"This is why I hate Himiko Ando ... we know all that is nothing more than a crock, don't we? Himiko speaks of integrity when she lacks the humility to admit her own faults. She's someone who believes herself fighting for something more than her own glory. I can see right through you, little fly... what I see is a paper champion—a liar. You believe yourself better than me because you got a place in this dojo on the back of your sister's legacy. You think you're the top student because you climbed a ladder faster than me? You think you're a better fighter than me because of your..." honour" You believe that this is the last time you'll have to deal with Spider Saya?"
A snort of amusement escapes Saya.
"Your ignorance would be amusing if they weren't so insulting."
She continues to pace back and forward, one hand held behind her back as she gestures as she talks with the other.
"An honourable fighter who stands alone against her evil arch nemesis, Spider Saya. Is that how you truly view yourself, Little Fly? I don't see how someone who's taken a shortcut in everything she does make such a claim, but whether or not this has been the case is rather insignificant. However, it is prophetic; don't you see Little Fly? Your prophecy will come to pass when you will be standing alone against a pure subject of an unrefined world. You think me a depraved fighter who hides under the guise of etiquette, but in reality, I am nothing more than the sum of a savage world. A spiteful world. A world that you, and fighters like you, have helped create... I am a reflection of what you and so many others try to keep buried deep inside..."
She nods to herself approvingly
"My fury held against your honour. Will that be enough? When the evil fighter standing before you has taken away your limbs. Your body and, eventually, your soul can honour alone secure the win for the new face of the future? Or will it all come crashing down like a pack of cards? Will the pressure of being the top student finally get to you? And when it does, what happens then? Will you crumble? Will you come down to my level? Oh, so many questions, Little Fly. This week, your greatest challenge will not take form in me standing across the ring from you. Oh no, I'm afraid not. Instead, your greatest enemy lies within. You've torn at your own pieces and sacrificed your ideals for that title you hold without ever truly beating anyone for it and unfortunately for you-Unlike anyone you've ever or ever will encountered, I welcome the PAIN of being a champion. I welcome oblivion....I will not accept defeat against you. I rather die then be defeated by Himiko Ando....So that's what you must do....Reveal yourself. Strip yourself from your mask, and reveal the animal within... and once you are done driving your fists into my skull - my blood dripping from your knuckles - I shall stagger to my feet and offer my arms warmly, for you have finally realized there's no difference between you and me. When you realize who you truly are. Either you do that or I will leave you beaten and bloody in the middle of the ring, broken and confused, plunging deeper into self-doubt. Where I will just leave you to rot. So once I step into that ring who is it I'll be looking across the ring at? Who shall reveal herself this week? An honourable champion fighting for what's right? Or another desperate animal chasing glory...
...Let's find out together, shall we?"
