This is what Kathryn has been working toward, from the first day she walked into the Valkyrie Star gym. At first, she thought that wrestling would just be a backup. Something useful to have as an option in case her career in nursing didn't pay off, but now she sees that it is so much more than that. It is a gateway for her to make her name and leave an eternal mark on the industry. Something that she intends on grasping with both hands. It's not how she expected her life to turn out, but she isn't going to complain. It has happened and now, all she can really do is embrace it. Accept it and give it her whole heart. It is what Valorie would want her to do, and why she has put her in this position. An act that Kathryn intends on repaying in full by honoring the sport every time she steps into the ring, no matter where it may be. Prove to Valorie that she was right to place her faith into Kathryn.
Sitting in front of the oaken table in Valorie's personal office within the Valkyrie Star gym in Bellevue, Kathryn feels nerves running up and down her body as she looks across at her trainer. She did not know why Valorie would invite her into the office, but knew from previous meetings that it could vary from encouragement to concerns about her character and if her heart was truly in the sport. Nothing in Valorie's eyes gives her any indication as to what the meeting could be about, either. Rummaging through a few pieces of paper, the veteran wrestler and trainer finds what she is looking for, sliding it between the two of them.
Valorie: "I found a place for you. A company who is willing to take you on board and let you be yourself."
Kathryn looks down at the piece of paper in front of her, noticing that it is a contract. An offer from a company in Japan, called Miracle Galaxy Pro. She didn't know anything about the company, but knew that Japan was considered a hotbed for wrestling, having remembered all the times Valorie would teach them about Joshi wrestling as well as Puroresu, two of the prominent styles of wrestling within the country. Styles of wrestling that inspired her.
Valorie: "You want to take it? I can call them and let them know, no matter what your answer is. I can try to find somewhere else if you want too."
Kathryn stares at the contract, then up at Valorie. Unsure of herself. This is her first time truly entering the wrestling world, beyond the scope of local high school events and this gym. She wants to take the offer, but doesn't know if she is ready for it. If she is capable of taking this big a step so early into her career.
Kathryn: "What do you think? Am I ready for this step or should I wait and see if I can make a name for myself here first?"
Sensing the self-doubt in her student's eyes, Valorie gives her a warm, genuine smile. One that indicates that no matter what she chooses, she will always be proud of her achievements. She will always have chances to showcase what she can do, no matter if it is local or abroad. Even if secretly, she does believe she is ready to make the move to Japan now, it is Kathryn's choice to make and her decision alone. All she can do is try and lead her in the right direction.
Valorie: "That is a decision only you can make. Look inside of your heart. Try to find it inside of you and see what the best course of action to take is. I will support you no matter what, even if you decide to stay here and cut your teeth more in the area. I knew a few companies who would be willing to bring you in, if you want to get your feet wet before working in Japan."
Shaking her head, Kathryn knows that Valorie is trying to help her find the right answer on her own, but she feels as if she needs to hear either an affirmation or a blunt you're not ready from her.
Kathryn: "No. I want to know what you really think. As in, without the professional speak. Tell me if you honestly think I should take it."
Valorie: "You want my honest thoughts?"
Kathryn: "Yes."
Valorie considers this for a moment. She knows what she is going to say, but wants to ensure it is framed in the best way possible. A way that Kathryn cannot misconstrue.
Valorie: "I think you're ready. You've been the one to go out in the gym and work harder than anybody I have ever seen. I see the dedication you have to this sport... to wanting to be the best wrestler and person you can be. It was that plus your natural talent inside of the ring that made me think of you when this contract came onto my table. I knew that it would give you the chance to experience Puroresu for yourself and visit a place so intertwined with wrestling culture."
Hearing those words, Kathryn processes it all. This is the biggest decision that she has had to make in her life. Even more so than the decision to commit to wrestling over nursing off. A decision that she doesn't regret, just as she doesn't wish to hold any regrets about whether or not she elects to put her name on the dotted line. The office is deathly silent as Kathryn bows her head, trying to give herself space. Time to think about if this is the right move for her. The best move she can make with her career. That is what matters the most. More than anything anyone could say to her. Even Valorie.
Valorie: "As I said, the decision is yours to make."
Kathryn nods. It is how it has to be and she knows that. She understands that she is the one who is impacted the most by this. Looking into Valorie's eyes, she feels as if she at least understands what must be done. What course of action she must take.
Kathryn: "I'll do it."
Valorie: "Are you sure? You don't have to answer now, but if you truly want to do this, then I can call them up and inform them you're on board. Or do you want to sleep on it?"
Kathryn shakes her head. She's sure that this is what she wants to do. Truthfully, she had always felt that way since Valorie first showed her the contract, but wanted to take her time. Consider her options internally before giving her answer.
Kathryn: "Yes. I'm sure. Japan is a place I have always wanted to visit, and this gives me the chance to do so. To go out there and see who I am against some of the best competition in the world. Wrestlers who bleed for wrestling just like I do. People who respect the sport and all that it provides, just like I do. This is the opportunity I've been looking for. The chance to see if I am truly ready for this."
Valorie: "You've made the right choice. I'm proud of you, Kathryn."
That's exactly what she needed to hear. Valorie confirmed to her that she made the best decision. Reaching over, she wraps her arms around Valorie, who returns the gesture. It's the least she can do for Kathryn.
Kathryn: "I'll make sure I make everybody proud. I'll make sure I carry the flame of everybody here. Of you with everything I do in Miracle Galaxy Pro. I promise that you will see me shine and make sure that everybody knows I will do things the right way. That every time I go out there, I will be doing it for you. I will be doing it for them and most importantly, I will be doing it for myself."
Valorie smiles, seeing Kathryn blossom into the flower she knew she always could be right before her very own eyes. She looks softly as she releases the embrace whilst maintaining eye contact and pondering something.
Valorie: "I know you can. I believe in you. Go out there and show them why you can be the one to bring wrestling to the fans. The hero that they deserve."
Kathryn: "I will.:
Valorie: "That's all I ask."
Pushing the contract to one side, Valorie indicates to her that it was the contract that was the reason for this meeting and that she may leave if she wishes. Catching a glance at the clock, there is another reason why she has to bring an end to this meeting. She told Cassandra that she would spar with her at three and doesn't wish to keep her daughter waiting. Especially seeing as she wishes to talk to Cassandra about a few things herself. Things that for now, are best kept under wraps for those not inside of the family.
Kathryn herself knows that it's best if she starts packing now, as before too long, she will be on a plane and Japan-bound. She rises, smiling across the table at Valorie one final time.
Kathryn: "I'll catch up with you later."
Valorie: "See you."
Kathryn exits the office, walking through the gym that has enabled her to enter the MGP. To commence her career in earnest. She knows that as poignant as the smell of sweat and leather can be, she'll miss it. Out of the corner of her eye, she notices Cassandra tightening the tape on her hands, sitting atop a bleacher. Waiting for her own opportunity to enter the professional wrestling world. Deciding not to rub in the fact that she now has a contract with a promotion, she wanders past. Leaving Cassandra to her own devices, hoping that she will find a place of her own soon enough.
Kathryn: "This is where I belong. The ring is my home and I plan on defending it with everything that burns inside of me. Even if it means I have to die in order to do so. There is nobody that is going to stop me. Nobody is going to stand in my way of bringing light to the world and making people smile. Making people believe that they have a bright future, just as long as they trust in themselves. As long as they do what is right."
She takes a breath, allowing the words to flow out of her mouth.
Kathryn: "That is exactly what I plan on doing. Japan, here I come."
Exiting the gym, she saunters her way over to her car. It is done and now, there is no looking back. Not that she is going to be looking back, for she wants to leave a mark people aren't soon about to forget. One that will go down in the history books as her rise to the top.
